P6.6: Refinement & Finalisation

Once agreement has been reached on the scope and scale of the preferred scenario, further work will be required to develop this up to an appropriate level of detail. Key elements of the proposals that are likely to require working up in greater detail will be the approaches to physical design of the place transport, engineering, social and landscape components. This work would need to illustrate how the place will work, demonstrate quality and the approach to delivery.

The refinement stage should allow enough flexibility for the plan to respond to changing circumstances. The resulting output should provide a drawn spatial masterplan; diagrams that explain the principles behind the plan; images that explain the form of the proposal (eg sections, block perspectives) in relation to its context and written text that provides explanatory and technical information, together with specific parameters and principles that can guide future proposals. More information concerning the outputs and the tools available to generate them from the design process are contained in the Topic Zone section of this Guide.

The final preferred option and supporting information will directly inform the scope of outputs that will be required to take the proposals forward through the formal planning process.
